Speleo Gallery and Geological Column - additional offer
One part of the Baredine cave complex is the Gallery designed for the visitors to get an insight into the science of geology, speleology and palaeontology, as well as to learn some educational facts on the most interesting, deepest, longest and protected tourist speleological objects of Istria and Croatia. Moreover, you get to discover the unusual underground fauna and the prehistoric traces of our ancestors residing underground.
One special feature of the Gallery is the descriptive Geological Column displaying the surface layers of Istria. The oldest limestone layers precipitated in the Coral Sea 165 million years ago, followed by the Cretaceous layers which cover the major part of Istria, up to the youngest layers, to which red soli (terra rossa) belongs.
